The capital of the Christmas tree "World's capital of the Christmas tree" - this smart epithet bears the town Lunenburg on the Canadian peninsula Nova Scotia. Every year there are thousands of trees planted for Christmas only. They are exported to America and Mexico by ship.
Among the delivery of trees to America there is always a particularly splendid specimen which is a present of the people of Nova Scotia for Boston - it is a sign of gratitude to the people of Boston who showed a great readiness to help in one of the biggest catastrophes that had ever taken place in Canada. It happened on the 6th of December 1917 in the newscottish port Halifax. Two ships collided and caused the biggest explosion that - until then - people ever had experienced. Large parts of Halifax were completely destroyed. America immediately started a relief action which helped the people of Halifax to get through the winter. The biggest help came from Boston, people there had sent aid worth several million Dollars. So the people of Halifax sent a special thank-you to Boston: the biggest Christmas tree that could be found in the whole country.
