Venezuela: Misa de Gallo at midnight

The influences of many different cultures come together in the Christmas customs of Venezuela but, of course, dominating are those of the Spanish conquerers - the Catholic influence.

In many families you can find a crib but it is not until midnight of the 24th of December that the Christ Child arrives on the scene! Then it's time for presents. Before or after that the people of Venezuela go to the Midnight Mass called Misa de Gallo. The traditional songs for Christmas are called Parrandas o Aguinaldo.
